I suppose most who know me consider me a pretty cynical guy, but I'll confess. Today I'm devastated.
I lost a hero in the worst way to lose one. I wish there was a way to keep the Randy Cunningham who was my hero as a young man - the hero who with his RIO became the first fighter ace of the Vietnam War and showed how a real fighter pilot fights the F-4 Phantom. That man inspired me in my youth and I never really outgrew my hero worship.
But unfortunately, that hero destroyed himself by accepting bribes.
Clayton Cramer wonders why Cunningham destroyed himself for so little, at least in monetary terms.
