To my surprise, Emory University seems to have finally done the right thing to regain some credibility. Today, it announces Michael Bellesiles' resignation. This is a great vindication of the many people who worked hard, and took abuse such as that ladled out by the Nation recently, to expose the fraudulent nature of Bellesiles' book Arming America. Bellesiles' statement continues to misrepresent both his own past statements about the controversy and the findings of those who investigated his work. The report of Emory's review committee is here.
