I have to write a note about a book even though I've not finished it yet. I'm in the middle now of what is the finest history book published this year, John Barry's The Great Influenza. John Barry has written a book that melds several good and fascinating stories ( the modernization of medicine in the United States, the authoritarian Wilson administration during WWI, how viruses and epidemics work ) into a fascinating and simply great history of the influenza pandemic of 1918 - a pandemic that may have killed more people than any other pandemic in the world's history.
