The below email went out to Staples corporate relations today:
I have recently seen news reports that state that Staples withdrew advertising from the Sinclair Broadcasting corporation. Evidently, Staples does not care for Sinclair's editorial comments.
Oddly, I did not see any news of Staples withdrawing advertising from CBS Inc. in light of CBS News broadcasting a "news" story based on forged documents slandering the President of the United States. If I missed that event, please correct me.
In the absence of such a correction, I thank you for making my choice of office supply stores easier. I will be shopping at Office Depot from now on.
Signed,
Robin Roberts
Update: The return email from Staples denies that they were withholding advertising from Sinclair:
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. Our media buying process with
Sinclair Broadcasting stations has recently been misrepresented by an
organization with no affiliation to Staples. Staples regularly drops and adds
specific programs from our media buying schedule, as we evaluate and adjust how
to best reach our customers. We do not let political agendas drive our media
buying decisions.
Staples does not support any political party. We advertise with a variety of
media outlets, but do not necessarily share the same views of these
organizations or what they report. As we have done for a number of years,
Staples will continue to advertise on Sinclair Broadcasting stations.
Again, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
